Left Hand Trail Through North Boulder Valley
This is a ramble over rolling, mixed-grass prairie. The Front Range is a constant backdrop to the west, the Lefthand Valley Reservoir shines to the east, with the honking calls of geese, and a big sky arches above.
The walk took me up gentle ridges and down into water courses that were only damp in May. The meadowlarks sang from all sides, but they seemed particularly shy, and I really couldn't get a good visit. Bees buzzed from bloom to bloom. Some had rich collections of bright yellow pollen packed onto their hind legs. Ant hills that are usually quiet and dead things during the heat of the day were teaming with workers after a recent raincleaning tunnels, in and out, back and forth. A shiny black beetle scurried across the trail and burrowed into the grasses at the trail edge.
