Dance Tips
by Brent Moore
No discussion -- just do it :-)
General
Keep your shoulder blades tucked down and under; this keeps your
shoulders down and your back flat.
Foxtrot
Dance to the open space – the W’s right elbow.
Keep your head over your LEFT hip.
Keep your left (LEAD) side toward your partner.
When backing, keep weight over the ball of the foot.
Three Step: H H/T T Feather: H T T
Hover Telemark: M three steps in a straight line.
Merengue
Inside edges, soft knees
Its OK to have the ‘fanny’ sticking out in separation figure.
Crossover break: lead like a New Yorker; step with toe pointed to
partner, no syncopation.
Cha
Cha travels to the side.
No heels in the cha; lift the heels and step on ball.
Forward and backward chas: close feet in 3rd position (heel to instep).
Never hold your hand so palm can be seen by people in front of you (esp
open break).
Waltz
Wing: man follow W around, rotate top half.
Weave: close head early or late, both are OK.
Dance the diagonals, not down line.
Whiplash: W close head to make the shape.
