Body Types

by Richard Lamberty

There are TWO fundamental body types: Willow and Oak.

WILLOW types tend to have problems creating enough sense of weight into the floor and maintaining the posture. They tend to want to move by pitching the top forward or backward. They can look wobbly and unstable. On the positive side, they tend to have great flexibility and lightness of movement.

OAK types tend to have problems creating lightness of movement and tend to be less flexible. They can look stuck and heavy. On the positive side, they can easily generate power and they tend to more easily maintain postural integrity.

Some people have elements of both types. It is useful to determine your type so you can know what your natural strengths will be, and what things you will need to work harder to achieve.
